Gainsight is a leading B2B software company known for pioneering the customer success category. The company serves enterprise organizations with a suite of tools designed to help businesses retain and grow their customer base. It's now expanding into agentic CS-as-a-service, where customers pay for outcomes like improved retention rather than software seats alone. With a large go-to-market organization spanning strategic, enterprise, and commercial segments, Gainsight manages a complex sales motion supported by extensive customer proof assets, including over 120 documented customer stories.
Chris Dalton joined Gainsight as a customer marketing leader responsible for the company's customer advocacy and proof programs. When evaluating the role, he weighed Gainsight's existing toolset as part of his decision. Peerbound was already deployed at the company, and that mattered. "If I only had budget for one tool, it would be Peerbound," he said.
Slack bot and Proactive Proof: removing every excuse not to use customer proof
Even with a library of over 120 customer stories, Gainsight's reps weren't consistently putting proof in front of prospects. In the best case, a rep would search Seismic, find a relevant case study, and send it along. More often, they would Slack Chris directly, turning him into a human search engine, or simply let the moment pass without sharing anything at all.
This was both a behavioral gap, and a tool gap. Gainsight's sales enablement platform offered only keyword-based document search with no AI assistance. A query for "healthcare case study" would surface files with "healthcare" in the title but provide no relevant quotes, no customer reviews, and no context. Peerbound's Slack bot replaced that limited experience by meeting reps where they already worked, in Slack, and returning contextual, natural-language responses. These responses included relevant quotes, reviews, and explanations for why specific customers surfaced, drawing from a more complete set of resources than a manually curated enablement library filled with PDFs or slides.
Proactive Proof took things a step further by removing even the need to ask. After every prospect call, reps received tailored content recommendations, including relevant quotes, case studies, and proof points, delivered straight to their inbox.
Chris said that with the Slack bot and Peerbound’s Proactive Proof emails, "the excuse goes away." Either reps have easy access to do an exhaustive search with the Slack bot to get whatever they need, or with Proactive Proof, they don't even have to ask. The email with the proof they need shows up right when they need it: immediately after they get off a call with a prospect. "They have exactly what they need right in their inbox. It’s a key tool to help us get closer to my goal: make it so easy to use customer proof in every prospect interaction that you have no reason not to do it."
Chris described himself as a big fan of the proactive approach to providing this content. "Historically, with so many tools, we require reps to remember where to go to use them, and even with something simple like DMing a Slack bot, it's still a step that some forget," he said. "If they receive an email in their inbox telling them exactly what to use as soon as they get off a call, it's on a silver platter for them."
From output metrics to empty slides: the customer proof attribution gap
Before Peerbound Measure, Chris faced a familiar challenge: proving that customer proof actually influenced revenue.
Chris had tried a number of workarounds in an effort to attribute case studies back to business impact. But buyer surveys asking what influenced a purchase decision offered only directional signals, and small sample sizes made any revenue extrapolation hard to defend under executive scrutiny. Website view counts and sales enablement link tracking captured fragments of usage but never assembled a complete picture.
Peerbound Measure changed the equation entirely. Launched in August 2026, Peerbound Measure tracks proof usage and win-rate impact for every deal and every rep at every stage of the deal cycle, so customer marketers like Chris can show leadership exactly how much customer proof moved net-new revenue.
Chris explained that Measure isn't adding incremental value in the sense of getting data a little faster or a little easier. "It's providing data that I just didn't have before," he said. "Our team just presented our QBR, and Measure was at the center of our readout to ELT. Before, in a QBR, we would have talked about how many case studies we published, which no one at the executive level really cares about. Now, I can tell them exactly how much lift we're seeing with deals and the specific reps who've seen the most value from customer proof."
As Chris shared publicly: "I'm really excited that Peerbound has tackled one of the biggest problems with customer proof: how to prove that it actually provides value. Customer Marketers now have data they didn't have before, and I'm excited for what that means for the CMA community to improve impact and influence."
Measure turns customer proof into the highlight of the QBR
When Chris built his first QBR with Measure data, the results were striking. "With one of our products specifically, there is a 5.7X increase in win rates with deals that have proof in them," he said. Across the board, Gainsight saw roughly a win-rate lift of +7.8% on deals where reps used customer proof.
The data also revealed clear patterns at the individual rep level. Chris found that the highest-volume proof user also sees the highest impact. "His win rate jumps massively when using proof. He uses it the most, and he also sees the biggest lift in his win rate when he's using proof." Another rep delivered the single largest proof-assisted win in the entire data set, a major competitive deal in the enterprise segment. Chris said they now have the data to back it up. "It's not just customer marketing saying, 'Hey guys, use this, it will help you.' Now, I can say Meredith won a deal because she mentioned this competitive win story multiple times. I can show exactly when she used it, at what stage in the deal, who she mentioned, and how that proof had an impact on her win."
Beyond individual stories, Measure surfaced a tactical insight: one mention of customer proof per deal isn't enough. The highest win-rate lift appeared when reps cited proof at least two to three times throughout a deal cycle, a finding Chris now uses to guide sales enablement.
With these numbers in hand, Chris's manager asked him to record a Loom walkthrough of the Measure dashboard to share with Gainsight's entire executive leadership team. Chris said Measure has gone from being an empty box to the most exciting thing he can share. "I can now share revenue attribution and win rate lifts with really exciting numbers that take customer proof from being the thing you conveniently leave out of the presentation to the highlight of the presentation."
Chris also used Measure data to set his first improvement goal: increasing rep adoption of customer proof. By tracking adoption rates, he can identify underperforming reps, highlight top examples, and measure progress over time.
Why building your own Peerbound makes no sense, and the hidden cost of getting it wrong
With LLMs widely accessible, Chris often hears, 'Why not build this internally?' His answer is straightforward: replicating Peerbound requires independently maintaining a complex stack—including a proof library, Slack bot, sentiment analysis, proactive recommendations, and analytics. While you could attempt to build pieces in tools like Claude, you’d ultimately be managing multiple fragile applications that lack the quality and efficiency of a dedicated, purpose-built product.
Chris said that when it comes to the build-versus-buy question, there are certainly some applications you can build yourself, but Peerbound is a case where it makes no sense to try. "You are better off just buying because not only would you end up with a subpar or incomplete product if you try to do it yourself, there's also the ongoing maintenance of all of those applications."
Beyond technical complexity, there is a reputational risk that no amount of vibe-coding can hedge against. Customer marketers deal in relationships, and a hallucinated quote attributed to the wrong customer can damage trust far more than any tool subscription costs. "When we're working in a field where we're working with relationships and reputations, quality and accuracy is paramount, and I don't think you're going to be able to get that reliably by building something on your own."
Embedding proof everywhere: pre-call prep, MCP workflows, and the road ahead
Chris used Peerbound’s MCP integration for proactive preparation, using Claude Cowork to automatically refresh and update Gainsight’s 120-slide customer story library with the latest quotes, metrics, and narratives. Reps are now following suit, and Gainsight has made more than 5000 MCP calls in just three months. One rep told Chris that he plans to build the Peerbound MCP into every call preparation workflow he runs, from intro calls to post-discovery to workshops, so that proof informs every deck and every meeting prep session.
These efforts all ladder up to the same goal Chris has communicated to the entire sales team: customer proof should be embedded in every external-facing workflow, used by every rep and every marketer, in every campaign and every deal. The early Measure data already shows what that opportunity looks like. The work ahead is closing the gap between where adoption stands today and a future where proof is something no one at Gainsight can imagine working without.
